Melpi Magliveras, founder of Benevolent Qi, came to acupuncture after a life-long struggle with stomach issues and pain. From early childhood, Melpi had explored all sorts of Western-medicine routes: tests, exploratory surgery, more tests, and all sorts of pain medications. She visited doctors from around the world - all avenues led to labels such as 'IBS' and 'spastic colon' - but no solution and no relief for her.
By age 16, she started to have extreme pain with her monthly cycle. Now she was labeled as having 'endometriosis'. Medication was prescribed which unfortunately didn't help. A laparoscopy many years later showed no signs of endometriosis.
At the urging of her cousin, Melpi found Jin Shin Jyustu, an ancient form of Japanese acupressure. This eventually led her to acupuncture and the cure to her pain.
With a passion to help others … as she had been helped … Melpi went back to school to study acupuncture. Wanting to achieve a deep understanding of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, she chose to go to the Swedish Institute in New York City to study Classical Acupuncture with 88th Generation Taoist Master Jeffrey Yuen - of the Yu Ching Huang Lao Pai (Jade Purity School). Her education at the Swedish Institute was rich with the ancient teachings of the human condition - constitution, psychology, physiology.
The stresses of every day life may be different, but the lessons of the Chinese masters still apply to people today. It is Melpi's hope to be able to use her education to bring people, from all backgrounds and health issues, to a healthier and pain-free existence.
