How does Acupuncture work?
Pain or dis-ease, in any form, comes from your body, mind,
and spirit not working together in unison. When this happens,
your body's energy force (Qi) becomes either weak or 'stuck'.
If your Qi is weak, you are more susceptible to acute conditions
such as cold or flu. If you are suffering from a chronic condition
such as bronchitis, it may have gone deeper into your body, or
your Qi may have been 'stuck' for a long period of time (ex.
Longtime anger or fear may have turned into chest pain or
back ache). Acupuncture works to both strengthen your Qi
& perpetuate it's flow.
What does Acupuncture feel like?
The actual needle size is not much wider than a single hair.
If you have a fear of needles, our professionals will do their
best to set your mind at ease. Acupuncture helps move your
body's internal energy, or Qi, so you may experience a gentle
tingling sensation both during and following the treatment.
A treatment can leave you feeling either very relaxed or very
lucid, depending on what is being addressed.
What does a treatment entail?
During your first visit, we will spend the first half-hour
discussing your medical history and chief complaint. This will
lay the foundation from which to work. Your treatment will then
begin. The treatment will consist first of an evaluation of your
body's current energetic state. In Chinese medicine, this includes
a special way of taking your pulses and looking at the state of
your tongue. Once your energy levels have been determined,
the remainder of your treatment will consist of stimulating points
along energetic 'meridians' with the help of needles,
moxibustion (an ancient herb used to congregate or disperse
energy), cupping, and/or chinese massage. This part of the
treatment will last between 10 minutes to an hour depending
on what end result we are trying to achieve.
